IOCD/ISDNP Symposium ‘Natural Products: Unlimited Resources for the Development
of Drugs, Cosmetics and Food.’, Kasane, Botswana, 24 - 29 February 2008.
The first joint symposium between the International Organization for Chemical Sciences in Development (IOCD)
and the International Society for the Development of Natural Products (ISDNP) convened in Kasane, Botswana,
in Africa during 24 - 29 February 2008, addressing the theme ‘Natural Products: Unlimited Resources
for the Development of Drugs, Cosmetics and Food’.
This symposium brought together a total of 135 scientists from nearly 40 countries, both in Africa and elsewhere
in the world, working on African medicinal and other useful plants (food, cosmetics and medicine) and also
phytochemists working on malaria, HIV-AIDS, and other diseases relevant to Africa. Nineteen plenary lectures
were given by world reknown specialists dealing with selected topics for African plants, as well as with the
treatment of diseases found in Africa. Other experts also discussed these same topics in 42 short lectures
and 52 poster presentations. The pre-symposium workshop provided young scientist from developing countries
