We see the chemical sciences increasingly yielding benefits in the health, agricultural, and industrial
sectors of developing countries, and thereby improving the quality of life for the vast majority of people
on the planet.
IOCD's mission, inspired by a deeply-felt ethical concern for the disparities between industrial and
developing countries, is to collaborate with chemists in developing countries to help them build capacity
in the chemical sciences and serve their communities in practical ways, while simultaneously advancing
their own careers with originality, entrepreneurship and practicality.
This collaboration occurs in IOCD's scientific Working Groups, which engage in the following activities:
Sponsoring symposia that serve as catalysts for change by bringing together
commercial, academic and basic scientific researchers to focus on practical solutions to developing world needs;
Providing opportunities for scientists in developing countries to work for short
periods within world-renowned laboratories in order to gain experience with modern methods and techniques;
Organizing workshops in developing countries to enhance proficiency in relevant
techniques, often by providing participants opportunities for hands-on laboratory experience.
